In the dry season the rivers offfers plenty of small gems, where you can go for swimming and a full day picnic.
Some of our favourites are.
Río Platanares (Link to location), a beautiful place just after Brujo on the left hand.
In our backyard, some few kilometres away, you'll find another favourite. Poza la Perica (Link to location). Such a beatiful place for a fresh dip in a riverpond
On almost every corner you will experience the local food at the small SODAS, that are spread around the country. Don't miss out trying one of theese experiences, ordering i.e. Casado or the famous Gallo Pinto.
Just in the neighborhood offers a little bar/restaurant is Rancho Mamonal (link to location). The bar offers some cheap food, even for take-away.
Are you looking for some bread and pastry, we will recommend to drive to Santa Marta, and town 4-5 km away. On the right hand you'll find Panadaria Santa Marta (Link to location). Freshly baked bread and pastry to accompany your coffeebreak.
The local supermarket, Supermercado Adepsa (Link to location), is located in the town Volcán, just a few kilometers on the gravelroad. Here you can find the most common neccesities for the everyday for the breakfast, lunch and dinner.


An exciting full-day coffee tour that begins with a scenic 1.5-hour drive to a remote area near Biolley. There, you will enjoy a guided tour of a coffee plantation, witnessing the entire process of coffee production from harvesting to the final cup.
Along the way, you can make several stops to visit stunning waterfalls and more natural attractions. You'll also have to enjoy a traditional Costa Rican almuerzo (lunch) accompanied by a refreshing "fresco natural."
Throughout the tour, you'll have plenty of opportunities to taste the local coffee and, of course, purchase some of the finest local products.

The region offers some small amusements for having fun, enjoying the nature and relaxation.
Not far from our house you will find Cocolandia (link to location). Here you can bring own food and enjoy the pools and playgrounds..
The beaches is a must, when you are in the southern region of Costa Rica.The shoreline to the Pacific ocean is packed with small, beautiful beaches.
1-2 hours of driving you reach one of the most stunning beaches in the south Playa Ballena (Link to location), where the shoreline is formed as a tail of a whale. The town nearby, Uvita, is one of the touristic places alongside the pacific. Here the are a lot of shops, restaurants and souvenirshops to visit.
Please be aware that a lot of the beaches is inside a National Park, and you will need to pay a fee per person.
Are you longing for some adventure? Here the region also offers a lot of possibilities. Hiking, trailrunning, Mountaneering, surfing.
On of our favourite places is far up in the mountains, where Omar & Jenny are running PicoAventuras Talamanca (Link to location). If you like the nature at closest hand, and longing for some quietness in breathtaking surrounding, you should try this out. We recommend to spend at least one overnight there, to get the full experience. (4WD is a must, and we recoomend to hire a local driver)
Close to PicoAventuras you'll encounter an interesting little gem, Chapel in the Clouds (Link to location). A small, magical chapel perched high in the Talamanca mountains, surrounded by mist and peaceful cloud forest. A visit worth (only with local guide)

In the area around Buenos Aires, you can encounter the main indigenous group Boruca (Link to teritory and shop), and some smaller groups as Bribri and Cabécar.
The groups even has their own language and traditions.
Do not miss out to experience the distinct culture of the Indigenous people.
In Boruca you can purchase handicrafts and traditional dances.
